Generate Public Key From Private Key Java

I'm looking for a java library or code to generate certificates, public and private keys on the fly without to use third party programs (such as openssl). I think something that is doeing keytool+openssl but from Java code. Consider a java servlet based web application secured with ssl and client authentification. The reason for that is easy: When generating RSA keys, there is actually no difference between the private and the public key. One is choosen to be private, the remaining one is public then. So if you could compute the public key from a pure private key, you could by Definition compute the private key from the public key. How can I create a base58 private key and public key in Java? I'm pretty familiar with Java and I have the bitcoinj-minimal code, but it's not clear to me how I can generate a base58 key pair from the code. In this example you will generate a public/private key pair for the Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA). You will generate keys with a 1024-bit length. Generating a key pair requires several steps: Create a Key Pair Generator. The first step is to get a key-pair generator object for generating keys. Using the AS Java Key Storage. Creating a Key Pair and Public-Key Certificate and Signing It Send feedback. Here you will find information on how to generate a new private key and certificate (referred to as keypair) and then sign the certificate using an external Certification Authority (CA).

To sign an assembly with a strong name, you must have a public/private key pair. This public and private cryptographic key pair is used during compilation to create a strong-named assembly. You can create a key pair using the Strong Name tool (Sn.exe). Key pair files usually have an .snk extension.

Note

In Visual Studio, the C# and Visual Basic project property pages include a Signing tab that enables you to select existing key files or to generate new key files without using Sn.exe. In Visual C++, you can specify the location of an existing key file in the Advanced property page in the Linker section of the Configuration Properties section of the Property Pages window. The use of the AssemblyKeyFileAttribute attribute to identify key file pairs was made obsolete beginning with Visual Studio 2005.

Create a key pair

To create a key pair, at a command prompt, type the following command:

sn –k <file name>

In this command, file name is the name of the output file containing the key pair.

Generate Ssh Public Key From Private Key

The following example creates a key pair called sgKey.snk.

If you intend to delay sign an assembly and you control the whole key pair (which is unlikely outside test scenarios), you can use the following commands to generate a key pair and then extract the public key from it into a separate file. First, create the key pair:

Next, extract the public key from the key pair and copy it to a separate file:

Once you create the key pair, you must put the file where the strong name signing tools can find it.

When signing an assembly with a strong name, the Assembly Linker (Al.exe) looks for the key file relative to the current directory and to the output directory. When using command-line compilers, you can simply copy the key to the current directory containing your code modules.

If you are using an earlier version of Visual Studio that does not have a Signing tab in the project properties, the recommended key file location is the project directory with the file attribute specified as follows:

If a code signer does not yet have a suitable private key for signing the code, the key must first be generated, along with a corresponding public key that can be used by the code receiver's runtime system to verify the signature.

Since this lesson assumes that you don't yet have such keys, you are going to create a keystore named examplestore and create an entry with a newly generated public/private key pair (with the public key in a certificate).

Type the following command in your command window to create a keystore named examplestore and to generate keys:

You will be prompted to enter passwords for the key and keystore.

  • The command for generating keys is -genkey.
  • The -alias signFiles subpart indicates the alias to be used in the future to refer to the keystore entry containing the keys that will be generated.
  • The -keystore examplestore subpart indicates the name (and optionally path) of the keystore you are creating or already using.
  • The storepass value that you are promted for specifies the keystore password.
  • The keypass value that you are prompted for specifies a password for the private key about to be generated. You will always need this password in order to access the keystore entry containing that key. The entry doesn't have to have its own password. When you are prompted for the key password, you are given the option of letting it be the same as the keystore password.

Note: For security reasons you should not set your key or keystore passwords on the command line, because they can be intercepted more easily that way.
